Janis Joplin Big Brother and The Holding Company Format: Album-Oriented Rock (AOR) 2012453 Editorial Review
**** The album "Cheap Thrills," featuring Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company, has garnered a significant amount of positive feedback from customers who resonate strongly with its raw, spirited performance and classic blues-rock sound. Reviewers highlight the remarkable quality of the recording, which transports listeners back to the late 1960s, an era celebrated for its musical innovation and heartfelt expression. The inclusion of bonus tracks, particularly standout songs like "Summertime," "Piece of My Heart," and "Ball and Chain," has been praised for enhancing the album's overall value, allowing fans to experience more of Joplin's powerful vocal performances alongside the dynamic instrumentals of her bandmates. Many fans appreciate the tangible energy captured in the album, reminiscent of live concerts that showcase Joplin's emotive singing style. While some acknowledge that this collection may lack the polish of her later work in "Pearl," the raw authenticity and passion seeping from the tracks are what truly connects with the audience. Joplin's unique ability to convey deep emotion is viewed as irreplaceable, differentiating her from other artists, and leaving an indelible mark on those who experienced her music live. Reviewers reminisce about their first encounters with Joplin's performance and the unforgettable impact it had on their appreciation for rock music, solidifying her as a timeless legend in their eyes. Overall, “Cheap Thrills” is cherished as an essential piece of musical history that not only reflects the incredible talent of Janis Joplin but also celebrates the legacy of a potent musical partnership with Big Brother and the Holding Company. **
